Iger on Hulu: Haven’t Lost Interest But Won’t Let It Get In The Way

Hulu

Does the deal with Netflix (NSDQ: NFLX) mean Disney (NYSE: DIS) has lost interest in owning equity in video joint venture Hulu? An emphatic no from CEO Bob Iger — and an equally emphatic refusal to let that paint him or Disney into a corner. This is a “world where the owner of IP has substantially expanded opportunities,” Iger said. “We don’t intend to let a platform — even one we own — get in the way of doing what we think is right.”

Iger said Disney never expected Hulu to become the company’s exclusive video provider, through distribution deals or its ownership of the video portal along with Fox and NBC Universal (NSDQ: CMCSA). “We continue to be supportive of what Hulu is trying to accomplish … and we continue to look opportunistically at the space.”
