Today’s rumor is that Twitter’s acquisition of TweetDeck is back on. We’ve heard this before, so it ain’t necessarily so. If the purchase goes through, I doubt that Twitter will shut down TweetDeck. It is one of the more popular Twitter clients for power users, who appreciate its ability to filter streams by list and aggregate other feed sources. Twitter said it is focusing on delivering a single user experience for mainstream customers – that doesn’t sound like it’s ruling out a tiered product line to service a few other valuable niches. Matthew Ingram takes a look at how Twitter is struggling to define its business while still supporting an ecosystem. He suggests a little more transparency in the form of public communications with developers could help a lot.
