Mobile News Startup Newsy Adds $1.5 Million

Newsy iPad App

Newsy, a mobile news video site, has added $1.5 million in its latest round of funding. The Columbia, Missouri-based startup’s anchors narrate videos summarizing pieces of news by stringing together coverage of the event from various news outlets. The videos seem amateurish to me (see, for instance, today’s lead video, which consists of an anchor reading text directly from various blogs) but have apparently won accolades from users who access them via iPad, iPhone, Android and Blackberry apps.

The company says the funding comes from an unnamed St. Louis-based private equity firm and will be used to build its “editorial, marketing and sales teams.” The startup had previously raised $2 million in funding from the same investor last May.
