Here’s What Happens When Google Goes On The Offensive In A Lawsuit

EasyCash With Google

Google (NSDQ: GOOG) has a crack legal team, hires top-notch outside counsel, and has won plenty of court victories in its short lifespan. But those are nearly all on the defendant’s side of the courtroom. It’s rare to see the company actually going after another company, even in the area where many big tech companies do get aggressive-filing trademark lawsuits to scare off other companies they think tread too close to their names (see under Intel.) But when a scam website started advertising “Easy Cash Using Google,” and featuring the company’s logo and colors-that went too far.

The WSJ reports today that this rare offensive suit has ended in Google’s favor, with a Utah judge has ordered the company behind “Easy Cash” and two related companies to pay Google $1.6 million.

The order also prohibits the three companies-Pacific WebWorks, Blooksy Interactive LLC and Search 4 Profit LLC-from using Google’s name or logo, or any confusing related terms like misspellings of its name.

Google first wrote about this case on its official blog when it was filed back in December 2009.
