HP CEO Leo Apotheker stressed his company’s commitment to the cloud yesterday, placing Amazon-style cloud infrastructure at the heart of a strategy focussed upon connectivity. A public cloud offering is to supplement the company’s existing enterprise solutions, although there is some uncertainty around the technology to be used. The Register is one of several sites suggesting that HP’s public cloud might be built on Microsoft’s Windows Azure. In addition to the new public cloud, HP is also aiming to deliver a range of future products over the web as services. Recent Big Data acquisition, Vertica, has been singled out as one of the first to benefit from the new delivery model. There’s a lot in yesterday’s announcement for enterprise customers, SMEs and consumers, as Apotheker seeks to set HP’s strategy for the coming years. Speculation outstrips detail by a significant margin, and I look forward to seeing others at HP begin publicly to put flesh upon the bones of their Chief Exec’s vision…
