Industry Moves: LivingSocial; Knight Foundation; Kaboodle; Rubicon

LivingSocial: Mitch Spolan has been appointed SVP of national sales to lead development of national accounts and expand the team to work with advertisers and marketers. Most recently, Spolan served as Yahoo’s VP of North American field sales.

Knight Foundation: Two new hires and a promotion: Michael Maness joins as VP of the Journalism and Media Innovation program and Rishi Jaitly is now Detroit program director. Maness previously headed innovation and design for Gannett (NYSE: GCI), while Jaitly was a Google (NSDQ: GOOG) executive. Eric Newton has been promoted to the new post of senior advisor to the president.

Kaboodle: Steve Chien is the new CMO, reporting to CEO Anne Zehren. He comes from Nextag, where he was VP of business development.

Rubicon Group: Entertainment biz veteran John Zuur Platten has joined the team as director of digital media. He’ll focus on expanding Rubicon’s entertainment properties, especially its casual games and apps. Earlier in his career he designed and produced video games and co-authored the book The Ultimate Guide to Video Game Writing and Design.
