Indie-film subscription streaming service Fandor is coming out of beta Wednesday and coming onto Boxee, for what may be the first of many deals to get on connected devices.
To tap into social networks, Fandor is also integrating with social video tagging service BlipSnips to enable clip-sharing. In addition, Fandor is making two notable additions to its board of directors: social-networking evangelist Chris Kelly and veteran indie-film producer Ted Hope.
Fandor had a beta launch last October, offering film fans a selection of 2,500 films for $10 a month. Its subscription approach set it apart from other streaming services targeting the indie world, like MUBI, which is an a la carte offering. Distributors include Kino Lorber, Cinema Guild, dGenerate Films, Typecast Releasing and Microcinema International.
Fandor has an innovative revenue-sharing system with filmmakers in which half of the the majority of the subscription revenues are divvied up depending on which films command the most consumption. An unspecified minority of that half of revenues goes to all the filmmakers regardless of how their work performs.
