Bloomberg Businessweek devotes the front cover to the cloud this week, with a story that does a pretty good job of describing today’s cloud landscape. I might be tempted to quibble with the article’s polarization of “a war” between Amazon, Google and Microsoft on the one hand, and HP, EMC, Oracle et al on the other, but would certainly agree that the competition is getting heated in various areas. In an accompanying slideshow thirteen significant players are briefly profiled, and assigned the sorts of labels that market segmentation pros love. Who, do you think, could the Instigator, the Eminence, and the Gear Head be? For those of you with management teams or boards that keep asking what this stuff is about, this wouldn’t be a bad magazine to drop on their desk. Then point them to GigaOM for more!
