Discovery Jumps Into The Content Licensing Business

Shark Week, Discovery

Want some footage of sharks or loggers? Discovery Communications (NSDQ: DISCA) is entering the content licensing business. A new site the cable TV company launched today, DiscoveryAccess.com, features more than 100,000 hours of archived content that third-parties can license.

Discovery says it’s the first time that its footage can be used by “external production entities.” The business is part of MyDiscovery, which the company describes as a new unit “charged with taking Discovery footage beyond the television.” MyDiscovery is led by Discovery veteran Carole Tomko.
