U.S. 2010 digital revenue: $560 million
Snapshot: CareerBuilder or Monster Worldwide? The two companies are arch-rivals in the job market in the U.S. comScore put Monster’s traffic at 25.5 million visitors in January, while CareerBuilder was right behind with 25.1 million. Sales are similarly close, with CareerBuilder holding a small lead. CareerBuilder is owned by Gannett, Tribune, McClatchy and Microsoft, and it benefits greatly from having its listings distributed on sites owned by those four companies.
Key digital move in 2010: It was Monster that shook up the online job market last year, with its purchase of HotJobs from Yahoo. CareerBuilder was comparatively quiet; its key initiative was the launch of a new product that let employers automatically invite potential candidates to join their ‘Talent Networks’ to stay up to date on relevant openings.
How we generated our estimate: A company spokeswoman provided us with a sales figure for North America.
