U.S. 2010 digital revenue: $300 million
Snapshot: Google, Yahoo, AOL and Facebook control a collective 44.7 percent of the display market, according to eMarketer. Adknowledge has been trying to position itself as the fifth player–and an alternative to the big names.
Key digital move in 2010: The Kansas City-based online ad network recently raised a huge $200 million round of financing. That’s likely to fuel more acquisitions since M&A had already been a big part of Adknowledge’s plans to take more market share in the display space. Last summer, it added affiliate sales to its list of offerings by acquiring Los Angeles based Hydra. It was Adknowledge’s eighth acquisition in less than three years.
How we generated our estimate: When it raised $200 million in debt and equity financing at the start of the year, the company reported sales of $300 million, double 2009’s total.
