NileGuide is buying larger travel recommendation site 10Best, as it continues to build its reach. 10Best features original articles and reviews on various travel destinations, while NileGuide features its own original content created by “local experts” as well as a way for travelers to ask questions of people in the places they want to visit. CEO Josh Steinitz tells us the acquisition will create “one of the largest travel publishers” online, drawing more than three million unique visitors a month.
Steinitz says NileGuide will maintain both sites, although he says NileGuide and 10Best will, over time, share more and more content and links. He says NileGuide will also be adding its “ask a local” function to 10Best. NileGuide acquired that feature last May, when it bought up Q&A site Localyte.
NileGuide is buying 11-year-old 10Best from parent Enveritas Group for an undisclosed amount of stock and cash. NileGuide has raised at least $9.5 million in funding, including $8 million in a second round two-and-a-half years ago.
