Sascha Segan this morning wrote this informative post examining how traditional TV broadcasters are hoping to use this week’s CES event in Las Vegas to push their offerings to mobile users via Mobile DTV technology. While mobile video has been a glorious failure (see Qualcomm’s MediaFLO, among others), Mobile DTV offers a far more affordable way to deliver video to cell phones. But users are still unwilling to pay much (or maybe anything) to watch TV on their phones, and advertising dollars are unlikely to support such services. So while the technology is coming to market for Mobile DTV, viable business models have yet to emerge.
