Video: Are Google Daily Deals Ahead?

Will Google (NSDQ: GOOG) enter the daily deals space on its own now that its $6 billion bid to buy Groupon is dead? In an interview with Mediabistro, Google’s Marissa Mayer said indirectly that it was under consideration: “We have things like coupons and offer extension ads that allow people, that allow merchants, to basically make offers to our users and so we are looking at how we can take that technology and put it to use especially in the local space.” No specifics but intriguing nonetheless, especially coming from a company that has been more than happy to imitate the competition in the past.
