I covered Nasuni’s funding this morning, which is just the latest in an incredible year for cloud-storage funding, and for cloud computing, in general. While other sectors were seeing funding drop, all things cloud were actually experiencing an increase. I hope to have some final 2010 numbers early next month, but I’m guessing the steady rise in cloud funding will have continued year over year. Part of the reason for the increased funding, of course, has to do with the business model as well as the technology — a little funding goes a long way in terms of building a customer base. That’s not necessarily true with cloud storage, however, especially where appliances are involved, so I’m interested to know if investors expect that more funding is needed to support the sales of relatively expensive solutions.
