RealNetworks (NSDQ: RNWK), which has gone through a major restructuring over the last year and says it is now focused on growing its business, has added a chief marketing officer to its executive ranks. Judith Bitterli, who has provided marketing consulting services to RealNetworks for the last year, is taking on the chief marketing officer title and will work to create “growth strategies for the company.” Bitterli was previously a co-owner of direct marketing agency Direct Impact, which was sold to Engauge two-and-a-half years ago.
Under Bob Kimball, who took over as RealNetworks’ acting CEO in January and was appointed CEO in July, the company has spun off its Rhapsody music service and focused instead on two of its businesses — RealPlayer and its software as a service business for carriers. The company has also gone through two rounds of job cuts.
RealNetworks says the restructuring is largely complete and it is focused on building up its product pipeline. As part of that effort, it unveiled a “personal media cloud” last month that will let consumers access their library of digital content from any device.
