Following its moves into men’s content and continued international expansion over the past year, lifestyle blog network Glam Media is starting Glam Social Communities, which is aimed at opening up its services to individuals in addition to online publishers. The company has hired Ryan Stern, VP of publishing at FoodBuzz and Federated Media, to run its social communities offering.
Stern is jumping to Glam less than a month after FM bought FoodBuzz, a gourmand-focused blog aggregator. In her role at Foodbuzz, Stern was in charge of managing the content and advertising deals with over 4,500 bloggers.
With advertisers looking to reach audiences through their social graph, as behavioral targeting becomes trickier and more controversial, Glam will try to create community ad programs around its vertical networks, which still largely cater to a female audience. The communities platform includes 2,000 publishers, bloggers, and “authors.” Stern will report to Jennifer Salant, the former VP NBC/iVillage for business development and operations, who was recently named SVP, Glam Publisher Network and Business Development.
