Kevin Yen, Director Of Partnerships At YouTube, Leaves Google

YouTube (NSDQ: GOOG) veteran Kevin Yen is leaving the company, he announced via e-mail Friday. He worked at Google for over seven years, most recently as director of partnerships at the Google-owned site.

As director of content partnerships, Yen was responsible for managing relations with everyone including the new-media wings of major media companies including Endemol to digital-only studios like to the amateur phenom “YouTubers” like SXePhil who amassed audience levels on par with cable channels. Making sure revenues were coming in for both Google and those partners was Yen’s focus.

YouTube’s content partnerships division was also recently hit with another departure, George Strompolos, who exited the company in September. Their departures may reflect what industry observers have noticed is a renewed focus at YouTube for striking content deal with bigger premium partners, such as the reported negotiations with Miramax. In September, Google lured Robert Kyncl over from Netflix (NSDQ: NFLX) to lead that charge, but no deals of significance have yet been announced.

Yen cited his decision “to pursue some ideas outside of this wonderful organization.” Here’s the full text of his e-mail:

After 7.5 magnificent years at Google/YouTube, I have decided to pursue some ideas outside of this wonderful organization. My last day with the company is today, Dec 10, 2010.

YouTube and its partners have come a long way in a short time in this amazing video revolution. We know the greatest opportunities are still ahead of the industry, and YouTube’s commitment to original content creators remains as strong as ever.
