– Getjar/Facebook: Another milestone for the apps world. GetJar says that the Facebook app has now been downloaded 100 million times from the cross-platform app store, which GetJar claims makes it the most downloaded app ever, or any app store. [emailed release]
— GSMA App Challenges: The wireless association behind the Mobile World Congress has launched two new marketing app competitions. For the “Brand App Challenge”, Developers are being invited to create apps for a select group of brands including Coca-Cola. The “Band App Audition” meanwhile sees Muse, Faithless, Metric and Eliza Doolittle judging apps that would be most engaging to these musicians’ fans. Winners will be announced during the MWC in Barcelona in February and win (unspecified) cash prizes – but not necessarily a guarantee that your app will get picked up by the brand/band.
— LexisNexis: Not all mobile content is fun and games… the Reed Elsevier (NYSE: RUK) database and research service is launching e-books to complement its printed products and online research services. [emailed release]
