While I love web apps, there are some things that I prefer to have a desktop app for. One of those things is managing my task list; I like to have easy access to my to-dos at any time, without having to open yet another browser tab. Popular task management app Remember the Milk (RTM) has spawned a number of third-party desktop clients, but the best one that I’ve found so far is called App for the Milk. It’s a slimline desktop client that’s based on Adobe AIR, so it works on Windows (s msft), Mac (s aapl) and Linux.
Install the app and authorize it to access your RTM account and you’ve good to go. App for the Milk has a simple interface: there’s a large pane for displaying your tasks, with buttons for adding, moving, deleting, sorting and displaying tasks and delaying tasks across the top, and a search box below them. It looks good and works well, although some of the way the interface is designed is a little tricky to figure out at first: you must double-click on a task to bring up the detail view, for example. It’s also worth noting that App for the Milk doesn’t support all the functionality that the RTM website does (the location field isn’t available, for example, even in the task detail view), so if you’re an RTM power user, you may need to look elsewhere.
App for the Milk is a free download from the developer’s website. Naturally, you’ll need a Remember the Milk account to use it; a basic account is free.
