Another big hire for Yahoo: Wayne Powers, the president of Time (NYSE: TWX) Inc.’s Media Group, is joining Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) as its SVP for ad sales in North America. Powers is taking the place of Joanne Bradford, the Yahoo sales chief who left in March for Demand Media; Yahoo started a search last spring to replace Bradford but later decided not to replace her and have four senior ad executives report directly to Yahoo Americas head Hilary Schneider instead. Schneider announced her intention to leave in late September and has since hired Ross Levinsohn to replace her.
Powers, who will report directly to Levinsohn, has been responsible for “all automotive, financial services, consumer electronics and technology clients” at Time Inc., according to this biography. Notably, he is also credited with creating the “Time Inc. Digital Network,” which lets advertisers run ads across all of the company’s online properties. Powers had been at Time Inc. since 1998.
