High-profile Facebook ad executive Mike Murphy is leaving the company, AllThingsD’s Kara Swisher reports. Murphy, who had been at Facebook since March 2006, most recently had led media strategy, ad sales and account management at the social network in the role of VP of global sales. His departure comes seven months after the company hired Google’s David Fischer to oversee sales.
Murphy is a rare departure from a management team that has not had any high-profile defections since CFO Gideon Yu quit in March 2009. But Murphy tells Swisher that his departure is not related to Fischer’s hiring and that he is instead leaving because, “for the last five years of hyper-growth here, I have been focused on Facebook” and “now, I felt it was time to shift that focus to my family.” There are no immediate plans to replace him.

We are sad to see him go, but we appreciate Mike’s desire to spend time with his family and look to new opportunities in the future. Mike’s made a lasting impact by helping to build a deep and talented organization that’s well-suited to take advantage of the many opportunities before us.”
