Investing is now added to the list of things you can do with an iPad with the release of Kapitall. The iPad app is a portal into the Kapitall website, a simple site designed to build and track investment portfolios online. The app turns interaction into a touch-optimized experience, complete with drag and drop capability.
Kapitall lets you build a practice portfolio to get familiar with investing in general and the app in particular. You start with $10,000 in imaginary funds and build a portfolio to learn about the market. The app provides top news that affects your current investments, and that helps you make new ones. It does a good job presenting the complicated investment process in a format that is simple and pleasant to use.
Using the Kapitall app for the iPad requires a free account with the Kapitall web site, and that account can be linked to the user’s Facebook account for sharing with friends. Once you’ve practiced with your portfolio and are ready to enter the real world of trading, Kapitall is partnered with TD Ameritrade to provide full trading using the iPad app. That’s where the real-time news ticker in Kapitall really comes into play, as breaking news can be used to direct real-time trading using the app.
I found it is easy to set up a practice portfolio with Kapitall, and manipulating it is a lot of fun. The news feed can be customized to focus on areas of interest, and the screens show investments in a format that makes it clear at a glance how your portfolio is performing. It’s a great app for those iPad owners who’ve always wanted to try their hand at trading online, without the risk.
