MPA Is Dropping ‘Publishers’ From Its Tagline, Replacing It With ‘Media’

The Magazine Publishers of America, the trade association for periodicals printed on glossy paper, is trying to update its image and is dropping the word “publishers” from its name. The change is meant to reflect that the group and its members are using more tools than just staples and dead trees. Instead, they want to convey the message to advertisers that these are “magazine media companies” and that there’s an ever-larger digital component to what they do.

Still, with an established trade entity like the Online Publishers Association solely dedicated to representing internet publications, the rechristened “MPA
