Citing Personal Reasons, Next New CEO Podell Steps Down

Lance Podell, Next New Networks

Lance Podell is resigning from his post as CEO of webisode syndicator Next New Networks, citing personal reasons, the company said. He will remain as chairman. The current chairman Fred Siebert, the former MTVN (NYSE: VIA) and Hanna-Barbera exec who co-founded Next New with Herb Scannell three years ago, will give that post up in exchange for taking on the CEO role.

After a period of restructuring in July ’09, the company experienced a rebound as it reached its one-billionth pageview two months ago. Podell became CEO two years ago, after Scannell stepped down to become chairman. Scannell left Next New completely in June after being named president of BBC America.

In a post on the company’s blog, Podell was credited with completing the streamlining of Next New’s operations and extending its distribution partnerships with MSN and YouTube. He also created a new effort to attract independent online video producers through the Next New Creators program.
