Chinese Video Site Ku6 Signs Content Deal With Sony

Chinese video site Ku6 is licensing rights to “several hundred” films and TV shows from Sony (NYSE: SNE) and a second, unnamed Hollywood studio, which it says makes it the first Chinese video portal to “acquire legitimate copyright content from major Hollywood studios.” The deal comes nearly 10 months after Shanda-owned Ku6 and Sohu (NSDQ: SOHU) said they would invest $10 million in licensing Hollywood film and TV content.

Meanwhile, in other Chinese video site news, rival Tudou is reportedly planning an IPO. The site has raised $135 million, including $50 million just last month. Research firm Pacific Epoch cites local media reports which say that the company has hired Morgan Stanley to underwrite the offering.
