Entertainment-focused video site Metacafe has made a small acquisition, buying up Action Sports, which is behind action sports community Go211.com. Go211 is best known for its live broadcasts of “alternative” sports events. Recent events broadcast live on the site include BMX race Blackjack nationals and the 2010 Oregon Trifecta skateboarding competition.
Metacafe says it will continue to maintain Go211 as a separate site, although the company’s video catalog will “be a centerpiece for the coming launch of Metacafe Sports.” With Go211, Metacafe says it will now reach 17.5 million unique monthly viewers in the U.S.
Metacafe doesn’t say how those numbers break down, but both Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Analytics and Compete have put Go211’s monthly traffic at more than 2 million unique visitors in some recent months.
