Bebo has hired Kevin Bachus, who is best known as a co-founder of the Xbox, as its chief product officer. New owner Criterion Capital Partners has promised to “staff up” the social network and Bachus’ hire comes a month after Bebo added Hi5 co-founder Akash Garg as its chief technology officer and Aren Sandersen, a former director of engineering at classified site Oodle, as its VP of operations.
Bachus was one of the first four members of the Xbox’s design team. He left Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) in 2001, however, and his record since then has been less distinguished. Bachus spent several years as the president — and later CEO — of Infinium Labs, a startup which was developing an online gaming system that was repeatedly delayed before being cancelled altogether. More recently, Bachus was CEO of Eastern European online and mobile game developer Nival Interactive. He talked about his background extensively in this interview with Game Set Watch in April 2009.
In a statement, Bachus says he’s “excited to work with everyone at Bebo and directly with the users to extend the notion of a social network beyond what it is today.” Bebo hasn’t been specific about how it plans to do that, although CEO Adam Levin, the managing partner at Criterion Capital Partners, laid out some of the areas that the social network was planning to concentrate on
