The event of the day is Google’s announcement of Google Instant – besides just guessing at what you’re typing, Google will present search results (i.e., the blue links) in real-time as you type. Whether or not this is a fiendishly clever way to increase search volume or kill SEO, Instant represents yet another adoption of a real-time feed as a user interface. It joins Apple’s Ping, MySpace’s stream (now with video), and Box.net’s cloud content management in adopting the Twitter/Facebook approach. At the risk of repeating myself, with more streaming, one needs better filters, whether algorithmically or user-controlled.
