John Foley, who most recently was serving as CEO of IAC-owned comparison shopping site Pronto and was also heading up Evite and Gifts.com, is leaving IAC (NSDQ: IACI) after 14 years at the company. IAC says Foley is being succeeded at Pronto by Darren MacDonald who was previously chief operating officer of the business.
We’re trying to find out if MacDonald is getting responsibility for Evite and Gifts.com as well and are waiting to hear back. The Gifts.com and Evite businesses will not report to MacDonald.
The changes come nearly a year after IAC launched two new targeted comparison shopping properties under the Pronto brand — one geared towards fashion shoppers, the other to people in the market for home decor. IAC referred to “strong growth” at the business in reporting its most recent quarterly results, although much of the buzz in the online shopping category has moved away from comparison shopping and toward group buying, where IAC notably does not have a presence.
Foley started his career at IAC as a director of operations at Citysearch; he subsequently was a general manager at Ticketmaster and the CEO of Evite, before co-founding Pronto in 2005. He added responsibility for IAC’s Gifts.com business in February 2009. No word on where Foley is heading next.
