LinkedIn is buying up personalization technology startup mSpoke in what is its first acquisition ever. MSpoke’s customers include publishers who use its technology to recommend content for visitors to read. The startup is also behind a consumer-oriented product, called FeedHub, which recommends posts a user should read on their RSS reader based on preferences they select, as well as their reading habits.
In a short statement, LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner says the company is “actively investing in solutions that help deliver valuable professional insights to LinkedIn members,” although he doesn’t say specifically what LinkedIn will do with mSpoke.
Weiner had said in June that the social network wanted to improve its ability to recommend other members a user might want to connect with. He said then that the company was interested in making some small acquisitions, specifically in the mobile space.
