Bccthis — a useful service that allows users to send private notes to certain recipients of an email — was today rebranded as Subtextual. Additionally, the company announced the launch of a premium “Pro” version of its Subtextual for Outlook application.
According to CEO Dave Waldman, the name change was required because some users were apparently getting the wrong idea about the product, assuming that because it was called Bccthis that it used the “Bcc:” field. In actuality, Subtextual allows users to add additional private messages (or “subtext”) to any recipient of an email. There’s a demo showing how the product works and what each recipient will receive in their inbox here.
The new Subtextual Pro for Outook costs $6.99 per user. In addition to carrying no ads, it has some useful extra features primarily aimed at business users:
- Send private attachments to selected recipients
- Remove public attachments from private emails
- Assign tasks and follow up with specific recipients
- Change/remove the private message signature
You can still download the free version of Subtextual for Outlook here.
The company is also working on versions of the product for other email clients. A beta version of the Subtextual service is available for Gmail as a Firefox add-on — it can be downloaded here.
