After Two Years, WPP’s 24/7 Puts David Moore Back In The CEO Seat

David Moore, 24/7 Real Media

It was exactly two years ago today that David Moore stepped aside as CEO of WPP Group interactive shop 24/7 RealMedia to take on the more general advisory role within the unit. Now, his successor, Jonathan Hsu is leaving 24/7 RealMedia after 10 years to become the head of RecycleBank, a green tech company rewards consumers for taking positive environmental actions.

With this move, Hsu isn’t completely leaving the WPP family. In connection with the personnel shifts at 24/7, the Dublin-based ad agency holding company has announced the formation of the WPP Global Technology Advisory Council, which will be made up of digital marketing technologists, entrepreneurs, and lastly, “visionaries.” Hsu will be a founding member of the WPP Global Technology Advisory Council with further appointments to be made.

Even though Moore was less hands on day-to-day at 24/7 during the last two years, he has maintained the high profile within the industry that he has had since co-founding the agency about 14 years ago. Moore was also the one who steered the $649 million sale of the company to WPP in May 2007. WPP was locked in a battle with Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) to buy the interactive shop. Even though Sir Martin Sorrell, WPP Group’s head, already had a reputation as one of the industry’s most determined acquisitors, most observers thought that it would be beaten out by Microsoft.
