Next BlackBerry Release Not All About Business, But Media Too

Yesterday at our paidContent Mobile event in New York, BlackBerry Partners Fund Co-Managing Partner John Albright, said the company’s newest devices coming out at the end of August will be far superior to the touchscreen phones they’ve released in the past. Today, RIM (NSDQ: RIMM) provided a taste of what the BlackBerry 6 platform will offer, including details on how it will be a multimedia powerhouse.

Of course, calling it a multimedia powerhouse may be extreme, given that iPhone users can tap into hundreds of thousands of apps and a robust catalog of music and TV in iTunes.

The yet-to-be released operating system will be critical to BlackBerry staying fresh in the marketplace. It said photos will be easier to organize and will include the ability to sort by event or date, and phones that have a touchscreen will support pinch-to-zoom. Videos will also be easier to sort through, or upload to the web using a YouTube application. In addition, the BlackBerrys will come loaded with a podcast service, which will allow users to search and subscribe to content for free.
