Google Tweaks Its China Strategy In Attempt To Keep Its Site Up

Google (NSDQ: GOOG), which has been redirecting Google China visitors to its search page in Hong Kong for three months now in order to avoid censoring its results, is trying a new strategy. The company says it can no longer automatically redirect users to lest its commercial website license won’t be renewed.

Instead, the company is adding a landing page to, which will include a link to, so that users themselves can navigate there in order to search. The company says it is “hopeful” that the new approach will placate Chinese authorities, who have been remarkably hands-off to date, considering that they can block access to either the Google China site or the Hong Kong one any time they want — but have not done so.
