Adobe Releases Flash Player 10.1 For Mobile

Adobe Flash

Adobe (NSDQ: ADBE) announced on Tuesday that it has released Flash Player 10.1 for mobile, which it promises will deliver a more consistent experience for devices across the web and mobile, including computers, smart phones, tablets, netbooks, and televisions.

Though Adobe trotted out a whole host of top tier companies to support the announcement–including Dell, Samsung, Google (NSDQ: GOOG), RIM (NSDQ: RIMM), HTC, Arm, Nvidia, Qualcomm (NSDQ: QCOM), Viacom (NYSE: VIA), HBO, and MSNBC–it couldn’t help but feel a bit premature.

The first users to get the software will be those who own phones running Android 2.2. But as IDG News points out (via PC World), the slight hitch is that currently, no one actually has a phone that runs the upgraded OS. Flash Player 10.1 has so far only been pushed out on review units of Nexus One handsets, though future Nexus Ones and Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Droids are expected to get the OS.

Adobe plans to release the final version of the player to other handset partners including Research In Motion, Palm (NSDQ: PALM), Symbian and Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT), but it remains unclear as to which phones on the market will get it. Adobe
