Samsung Prepping 7-Inch Android Galaxy Tape

Samsung is getting ready for a September release of a 7-inch tablet running Android (s goog) that looks like a compelling device based on information leaked by Vietnamese site Tinh te (translated). The tablet, expected to be named the Galaxy Tape, will sport a super AMOLED screen making it good for viewing outdoors. It will run the A8 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, making it faster than the Snapdragon processor appearing in other Android devices. The respectable 16 GB of internal memory can be augmented via microSD card to a respectable 48 GB of total memory.

The Galaxy Tape weighs a mere 370 grams (13 ounces) making it a light tablet that can provide comfortable all-day usage given its 4000 mAh battery. It will ship with Android 2.2 (Froyo) and Samsung will include e-book and magazine reader software to support a mystery content system for the Tape. The photo of the Galaxy Tape shows it running Samsung’s TouchWiz shell on top of Android.

  1. I’ll be making the plunge for a tablet sometime this year. What’s missing here is the “mystery content system for the Tape” which obviously be the make or break feature for this tablet.

I’m not sure about “will sport a super AMOLED screen making it good for viewing outdoors.” From what I’m reading in several forums, AM-OLED is a complete washout in bright sunlight. However, not a deal breaker for me.

  2. 7″ is a very good size for a tablet imo, Meaning it could fit in a jacket pocket. I would like to see a tablet this size with more office capabilities like office 2010 and photoshop if it can be docked and used as a desktop replacement
