Video Game Net Machinima Raises $9 Million Second Round

Online game and entertainment network has raised a $9 million second round. The round was led by Redpoint Ventures. The Los Angeles-based company raised $1.7 million last November from MK Capital as an add-on to its first round for a total $2.5 million. Including this latest funding, Machinima has raised $11.2 million to date.

In a statement, CEO and chairman Allen DeBevoise said the $9 million in proceeds will go towards expanding the scale, reach and engagement of its community. The company also wants to build up its marketing capabilities around new game releases.

Machinima hopes to capitalize on the growth of online video. For the month of May, Machinima claims its site delivered over 127 million video views to over 27 million uniques. The company also has a YouTube channel, which recorded over 50 million channel views, and over 1 billion video views, since it started in Jan. 2006.
