Genealogy site Ancestry has acquired Swedish family history website Genline.se for $6.7 million in cash. Ancestry’s European expansion comes several months after rival site MyHeritage.com bought Germany’s OSN Group for an undisclosed amount.
Once the deal is settled, Genline will join Ancestry.com’s family of nine global web properties. Ancestry claims to attract more than 1.2 million subscribers to its network of sites, which contain and host over 5 billion historical records and 17 million family trees containing 1.7 billion profiles.
Genline will bring its 17,000 paid subscribers with access to 26 million pages of digitized Swedish church records spanning more than 400 years from the 16th to the 20th century. Release
