Skype was once a threat to the wireless industry with carriers worried that free voice calls would eat into the size of the calling buckets people signed up for, but unlimited plans and the competitive advantage of offering such a service, are now eliminating those fears.
This winter Verizon Wireless announced a partnership with Skype, and has since integrated the service into 12 smartphones. Now the carrier says it will be expanding the partnership to include a wider range of handsets later this year.
There’s a lot of fine print on this offering. Skype-to-Skype calls and chats are unlimited and free when users have a data plan. However, Skype mobile calls made to landline and wireless numbers in the U.S. use minutes from customers
