Community forums owner CrowdGather has purchased digital ad agency Adisn for $5.5 million in stock. CrowdGather is known for its acquisitve ways — it has now made four acquisitions since last August — but says the Adisn buy is the biggest in its history.
Adisn builds ads that can automatically be changed based on who is looking at them (an example on its site shows how a Dunkin’ Donuts ad changes based on the current weather in a visitor’s city); the company also says it uses “social data” — like how words on a blog post are connected — for targeting.
In a release, CrowdGather says that Adisn brings it both a sales force, as well as an ad serving platform — neither of which it had before.
Adisn had raised $1 million in a first round led by Battery Ventures two years ago.
