Nate Silver’s popular political blog, FiveThirtyEight, is moving over to the NYT just in time for election season. Silver says in a blog post that, under a three-year deal, the newspaper is licensing all of his blog’s content, which will now be hosted on the NYT site. Visitors to the current FiveThirtyEight site will be redirected to a new “more robust and feature-rich” FiveThirtyEight site on NYTimes.com, which he will oversee.
The deal gives the Times a marquee online political brand on the eve of the fall political news rush. That should help it counter the Washington Post‘s recently redesigned PostPolitics site and continued growth at Politico and other political blogs.
During the 2008 political season, FiveThirtyEight ranked 18th in traffic among political blogs and news sites, according to comScore.
