NPR CEO Vivian Schiller — the only woman speaker featured here this year — wowed the tough D8 crowd with a witty video featuring various new NPR “products” in development including Scott Simon in 3D and a Chatroulette version of game show Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me. And she talked some real business, too. NPR has about 34 million listeners who average six hours of listening a week and more than 300,000 downloads of its free iPad app. But Schiller isn’t fretting over how people get to NPR: “I don’t think of them as internet shows or radio shows. I just think of them as shows. .. We are agnostic.” Later in the interview with ATD’s Kara Swisher, Schiller added: “Consume us any way you choose. Just be there.” And they will stay free: “It is at the heart of our mission that we will make content available free.” A video excerpt in embedded below; ATD’s coverage is here.
