Borders Taking Orders for $120 Libre e-Reader

Bookseller Borders is taking orders for the Aluratek Libre e-book reader. The Libre uses a monochrome non-backlit display instead of the traditional e-Ink technology, which means no page flashing when the page is turned. The Libre looks to be a full-featured reader considering it is priced at a reasonable $119.99.

According to Borders, while it can be ordered now the Libre will be available on July 2. It comes with 100 free classics loaded to get new readers started using it out of the box. The reader does not have connectivity of any kind which is not surprising given its low price. Books are loaded onto the Libre over a USB connection to a Mac or Windows computer using a simple drag and drop method.

The Libre has a 5-inch screen making it extremely portable, and at only 7.6 ounces it is highly portable. It has a slot for a SD memory card of up to 32 GB in capacity to augment the internal 256 MB of storage.
