As things migrate from the web to mobile, so will gift cards. Or at least that’s the thought behind Giiv, a mobile start-up that allows people to send a gift card to a person’s phone via SMS for a variety of establishments, ranging from Amazon (NSDQ: AMZN) to Wine.com or even for two doughnuts and a cup of coffee at Krispy Kreme.

The company, formerly called MoboGift, said today raised $3.35 million in a first round of funding from investors including Google (NSDQ: GOOG) CEO Eric Schmidt (through his personal seed fund TomorrowVentures), Saban Ventures, Founder Collective, and SK Telecom (NYSE: SKM) Ventures, reports TechCrunch. Schmidt previously invested as a seed investor. This makes things official. We reported back in October that the company had raised $2.3 million in a first round of funding, according to an SEC filing.
