Facebook Buys Web ‘Conversation’ Startup ShareGrove

Sharegrove

Facebook has made another small acquisition, buying up ShareGrove, a startup which lets users start private conversations with groups. With ShareGrove, users invite friends to join a real-time conversation and can then share links, photos, videos and text simultaneously with all participants; the service integrates with Facebook Connect so that users can easily find friends to invite.

No details on how exactly ShareGrove will be folded into Facebook, although one obvious possibility is that its concept could be added to Facebook’s chat service. Meanwhile, the ShareGrove service itself is being shut down effective June 1, according to a message posted on its site.

This is the fourth acquisition Facebook has made over the last year. In August, it bought up sharing service FriendFeed
