Electronic book and newspaper distributor LibreDigital has raised $8.1 million in a third round of funding. The company’s technology helps book publishers distribute their content on devices like the Kindle, iPad, and Nook, and also helps newspapers, including the NYT, build electronic editions. The company counts eight of the top ten newspapers in the U.S., as well as six of the top ten U.S. trade publishers as customers.
The funding round — which LibreDigital says it will use to expand services for publishers who want to respond to the “unprecedented demand” for e-books — brings the company’s total backing to more than $27 million. LibreDigital had raised $15 million in a second round of funding last summer.
Previous backers include HarperCollins Publishers and the New York Times (NYSE: NYT). This round was led by S3 Ventures; Adams Capital Management and Triangle Peak Partners also participated. More details in the release (via PEHub).
