Spotify Comes to Nokia’s Ovi Store

Spotify, the hot online music service that has taken Europe by storm, has been approved for launch in the Ovi store, making it a godsend for millions of Nokia (s nok) users in Europe. Spotify is already available on the iPhone platform and has been charging customers for premium service. For Nokia the availability of Spotify in the Ovi Store will be a big boost as Nokia’s app store looks for successful apps to fend off rivals such as Google’s Android (s goog) and Apple’s iPhone OS.

There is also word that Spotify is going to launch in Netherlands very shortly, based on a comment thread on Get Satisfaction, where a company spokesperson recently left a comment indicating the pending launch.

At the end… guess where people will get their Spotify download? Obviously directly from Spotify. Who is using the Ovi store anyways?

Probably the people who are downloading 1.7 million items a day from it – a number which continues to grow.

You were saying?

Spotify has been available for a long time for Nokia phones, even before iPhone.

Only that now is available through Ovi Store so we dont need to navigate to spotify to download.

Check your facts please…

I am not sure what you are reading, but that is exactly what I wrote. Not sure how you are seeing that I am missing the “facts.” Wasn’t the headline clear enough?

Hi Om,

Nice post. Thx!

I think the part the commenter is referring to is when you state…

“Spotify is ALREADY available on the iPhone platform and has been charging customers for premium service”

The word “already” might imply that Spotify, prior to it’s arrival in the Ovi store, wasn’t available on Symbian devices when, in fact, it was and, as the commenter states, way before it was available on the iPhone.
