Why Muni Wi-Fi Player Tropos Plugged Into the Smart Grid

You might remember Tropos from when building city wide Wi-Fi networks was all the rage — Google’s Wi-Fi network strung across Mountain View, Calif. was equipped with thousands of Tropos routers. But the company more recently has been angling for a piece of the smart grid, and is using its history of working with cities to help deliver those deals. At our Green:Net event, Earth2Tech writer Jeff St. John interviewed Tropos CEO Tom Ayers about Tropos’ take on open standards, cellular smart grid networks and what it’s like to build networks in Abu Dhabi.
