The rush of private sales deal-making continues; This time, it’s Brazilian private sales firm Brandsclub, which has raised $17 million in a funding round. Fifteen million of the total comes from South African media giant Naspers, according to a report in Brazilian tech site Baguette (via TC). Brandsclub claims 1.2 million users in Brazil and is plotting a Latin American expansion.
The funding comes as several private sales firms — which typically offer steep discounts on goods for a limited time — have either been sold or have raised large rounds. Gilt Groupe raised $35 million last week, while Rue La La was sold to GSI Commerce for up to $350 million late last year.
This is Naspers’ second major investment in Brazil in less than a year; it bought a majority stake in Brazilian e-commerce group Buscape for $342 million in September.
